Dr. Dan Gordon
Dr. Dan Gordon is a globally respected expert in cardiopulmonary exercise physiology with over 20 years of research experience. Since 2022, The Agape Fund has supported Dr. Gordon’s leadership of the MinDSets Study, a pioneering effort exploring how structured exercise can improve cognitive function, physical health, and overall wellbeing in individuals with Down syndrome.
Building on this work, our recent grant supports the next phase of research focused on understanding how exercise (particularly variations in intensity) can more precisely influence both cognitive and physiological outcomes. Despite well-established benefits of physical activity in the general population, there remains a significant gap in evidence-based, population-specific guidelines for individuals with Down syndrome.
We remain committed to advancing this important work and enabling Dr. Gordon and his team to better understand how tailored exercise interventions can improve quality of life and long-term health outcomes. Importantly, this work also has the potential to help inform broader systems of care, contributing to the development of reimbursable, evidence-based therapeutic approaches that make exercise more accessible as a prescribed intervention for these communities.
At its core, this research reflects a broader, data-driven belief: that there is still much we do not understand, and that progress requires allowing the evidence to guide exploration. By studying how exercise interacts with cognitive function, physiology, and genetic variation, this work aims to uncover insights that may extend beyond Down syndrome, informing a more unified understanding of health, resilience, and neurodevelopment across populations.
